Adequate Pet Care Regulations

Number of Pets Allowed 

Pet owners are allowed to have four dogs, four cats, one pot-bellied pig, or any combination of those that do not exceed four animals at a single residence.                                                                              Breeding animals is not allowed within Raytown city limits.

 

 

Adequate Care 

Pet owners must provide their pet with:

  • Wholesome food and a clean and fresh supply of water
    • Water should be in a container that cannot be overturned
  • Immunizations and other preventative health care
    • All dogs, cats and ferrets are required to have annual rabies vaccinations from a veterinarian
  • Space to get sufficient rest and exercise
  • Proper grooming
  • A structurally sound, properly ventilated, safe, sanitary and weatherproof shelter suitable for the species, condition and age of the animal
    • Outdoor shelter(s) must have access to shade



Adequate Restraint of Pets 
All dogs and cats are required to be adequately restrained while outdoors to prevent the pet from leaving the property or from causing fear or harm to neighboring                                                                  people and/or pets. The animals may be restrained by a handheld leash or a structure such as a fence, kennel or cage that is sufficient to prevent an animal being                                                                  loose. Tethering of animals is allowed however someone must be visually supervising the animal to ensure the pet’s safety while being tethered.
