Raytown EMS Fall 2018 EMT Academy begins

Raytown Emergency Medical Services Training Academy will provide participants with the knowledge to become professional pre-hospital care providers. The participants will undergo a comprehensive program built around high standards and quality instructors. Clinical experiences will meet and exceed the minimum requirements giving students a well rounded and complete hands on experience translating into professional and career success. The participants will be provided with knowledge in the following areas:

.Legal and ethical issues for pre-hospital providers
.Basic and advanced airway techniques including CPR
.Assessment and emergency treatment of medical and trauma patients
.External Defibrillation/AED operations
.Basic medical pharmacology
.72 hours of clinical experience in a EMS field setting
And much, much more!

The next EMT-Basic Course, held at Raytown EMS, will begin on August 21, 2018 and ends on December 13, 2018. Classes will continue to be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. There will be one  mandatory Saturday class from 9 am - approx 3 pm & possibly one additional Saturday. The tuition is $1100, which includes a textbook with online course resources including eWorkbook/eBook/TestPrep practice tests for the computerized testing required to obtain a license, Healthcare Provider CPR/AED training card, all classroom instruction, and liability insurance which is required for all students.

We will continue to offer the 20% discount offered to City of Raytown employees and one immediate family member. (Employees will only be allowed to use the employee discount once and the discount for an immediate family member one time only. Immediate family members include spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law.) Confirmation of employment with the City of Raytown and relationship will have to be provided.

The $275 non-refundable deposit, completed application, and government-issued photo ID are required to hold a seat in the class. Space is limited.

Additional information regarding classroom requirements and fees:
Payment plan- ($40)
Collection fee- (min $100, up to 25% of amount sent to collections)
NIEMT psychomotor fees- (currently $35 for skills station & $35 for assessment station; another fee in same amount for each station needing retest)
NREMT cognitive test fee- ($80 for each attempt).

Criminal background check (Currently $39. More info given on first day of class about how to obtain.)

Watch with seconds (digital or analog)
Blue or black EMS or cargo pants are required by the time field shifts begin (approx. 2 months after start of class).

Students are required to have access to reliable internet and a computer to complete homework assignments, tests, & access other online course resources.
