Mayor Mike McDonough

Mike McDonough was elected Mayor of the City Raytown in 2015, and was

reelected to a third term in 2023. McDonough has been a Raytown resident

for nearly 61 years.

He has spent his entire career working in public service. First, in the Public

Works Department, then in 1975 as a Raytown Police Officer. McDonough

retired in 2014, after 40 years of service to the community on the Raytown Police Department.

His impact on the City has be widely felt and he has been honored with the following awards:

- 2024 Hall of Fame inductee by Raytown Education Foundation

- 2020 Raytown Chamber Community Hero Award

- 2019 Suburban NAACP Hero for Diversity Award

- 2019 Raytown Chamber Person of the Year

- Truman Heartland Foundation 2014 Raytown Citizen of the Year

- Raytown Fire District Life Saving Award

- KIWANIS Police Officer of the year (twice)

McDonough serves on various boards and committees that include:

-        Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Board of Directors

-        MARC Total Transportation Policy Committee

-        Joe Herndon Career Center Law Enforcement Advisory Board

-         Eastern Jackson County Betterment Council, President

-         Department of Justice Facilitating Meetings Around Community Conflicts Program

-         Jackson County COMBAT Raytown STRIVIN anti-crime initiative

-         United Missouri Mayors

-         Raytown Live Community Concert Series Board

-         Raytown Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Committee member

-         Raytown Main Street Association Board member

-         Raytown School District Strategic Planning Committee

His community involvement is just as broad. He is a member of the Raytown Masonic Lodge, Ararat Shriners, Scottish Rite, Knights of Columbus and Raytown Rotary Club.

As Mayor, McDonough is passionate about making Raytown more vibrant

and a better place to live, work, and play. His dedication and compassion

allows him to work collectively with Raytown citizens, the Board of Aldermen,

Chamber of Commerce and other organizations to move forward with projects

that improve infrastructure and neighborhoods ultimately, attracting more

businesses and families to the community. McDonough is also committed to

capitalizing on Raytown’s geographic location and placement along the Santa

Fe, Oregon, and California trails, as well as Jackson County’s Rock Island

Corridor trail, which traverses through Raytown.

McDonough moved to Raytown as a youngster and graduated from

Raytown South High School in 1973. He has three adult children and

six grandchildren.
