Alderman William "Bill" Van Buskirk
Representing Ward 4
Bill Van Buskirk was first elected to the Board of Aldermen in 2009 and in
April 2021 he was reelected to his fourth four-year term. Public service is
in his blood – his father served on the city council of the small town where
he grew up. His dad, along with hearing President Eisenhower speak, instilled
in him a deep interest in politics. Van Buskirk is passionate about making
Raytown a better place to live and do business.
Fun Fact: Bill and his wife Mary Jane are both Aldermen serving Ward 4.
Van Buskirk is active in the community. He is a member of the Raytown Area Chamber
of Commerce and currently serves on the following boards/committees:
- President of the Board of Directors for the Salt Springs Cemetery Association
- Raytown Municipal Redevelopment Corporation
- Liaison to the Police Pension Board
Previously, Van Buskirk was Mayor Pro Tem in 2013. Other committees he
formerly served on include:
- Chair of the Legislative Committee
- Chair of the Municipal Committee
- Special Sales Tax Citizen Review Committee
- Police Pension Review Committee
- Raytown Historical Society
- Fraternal Order of Police
- Friends of Rice-Tremonti
- Raytown Main Street Association
Van Buskirk was a graphic artist for one of the largest companies in the metro. He retired after 40 years.
He’s also held occupations as a private investigator and Raytown Police Officer.
Van Buskirk and his wife Mary Jane have lived in Raytown for nearly 50 years. He is a long-time member of a local church. In his spare time, he has volunteered with various organizations including his church, the American Red Cross, Raytown Quality Schools, and coached youth sports programs.
